Week 6 tut

Imperative implication and investigation:

After the tut we were asked to through our site analysis and researching determine what the site needs. In doing this we asked our self,

what are the problems with the site, what does the site need, constraints on the site, opportunities, how would nature solve these issues, uniqueness of the site what to use and what not to, what could work in the site.

Problems=
• Deserted
• floods
• hidden
• access
• hill blocks a fair amount of the sun
• located away for the CBD (further that walking distance)

What does the site need?
• Something to attract people to utilise the site.
• better lighting,
• safety, (would occur with element list above)

Constraints on the site and design
• heritage listed building and bridge
• access (pedestrian and vehicle)
• buildable site 1000m2
• floor area ration = 0.5- 1.0, (500m2 min - 1000m2 max)
• follow concept of the folie

Opportunities
• natural topography
• vegetation
• rivers,
• bridge
• relatively flat surface free of pretty much all obstructions
• within walking distance for close shop,
• Landscape, (different layers= made, built and manipulated.)

What could work in the site:
• Commercial= bring activity to the site, shopping program?
• recreational = more people to the site, could make it exclusive or open to

everyone, green wall (cliff different experience of a green space than what pervaded anywhere else in Brisbane)
• educator to the general public
• Opportunity for cross programming (more than one function out of the design) I'm thinking commercial with educational/ educator
Biomimicry Ideas that interest me so far:

After just doing some initial research I found two elements that looked really interesting
the idea of
• Biomimicry cool Alternative; Eastgate center in Zimbabwe= mimics the termite nest and how it regulates it heat, Be very useful in the Brisbane climate.
• How nature reactions to environmental factory, (gravity) idea of making structure more efficient with less materials,

After watching some of ..................... videos as an introduction into the concept of Biomimicry the concepts that were first interest me were the basis of what Biomimicry looks at
• How does life make things, without heat, beat and treat
• how does life make the most out of things by adding information to matter
• how does life make things 'disappear' into systems

this then looked into the Biomimicry aspects and the initial ideas that have stood out for me are:
• Solar transformation
• shapes clean without detergent
• quenching thirst ( separation technologies)
• strengthen with minimal material, (minimal material by adding design
• multiple function into on material,
• listen in noisy environments,
• provide ecosystems serves cities (become a whole environment)

Inspiration:
