Final Building design. Project 2

Further design inspiration related directly to my design.

Three basic ideas to design to;
1. radical increase in resource efficiency
2. liner to closed loop (waste from one is products for another)
3fossil fuel ecomomy to solar economy.

Singapore Changi Airport, Passenger Terminal 3, #02-39 ... Innovations. Movements & Materials ...
great inspiration within the amazing use of materials (most of all i like there use of glass)

MIND Mapping

IN understanding the site i undertook some simple diagraming juts to put everything into context.

initial understanding of all the elements making up the urban environment.

then the understanding of the natural environment creating two opposing groups of aspects

diagram assessing the main element of the site to consider.

The diagrams above Although I haven't used them yet is a great way of analysing each aspect with a design by breaking it down into the 5 elements. will be very helpful for our final design.

Last diagram is a list of all the elements I have found to have an influence on the site in some way, with varying effects.

Programing

Design Development.

This was used in my initial understanding on how to create functional garden spaces while also allowing enough room for the others to tend to their own gardens in peace.

Then I asked myself how will these gardens themself function, were I done a little bit of research and come up with the idea of a membrane floor at the bottom of the garden bed were it would allow excess water to drain away leaving the soil and plant happy.
This water then has the possibilities of being stored and then recycled back into the gardens or into surrounding context.

This is a rough diagram of how sea water greenhouse works which I wanted to achieve similar principals within my building. although there is some differences within the location of the sea water house and The Garden (my design) the parameter of how efficient the process would be is a little unclear, however in any case having these elements within the building would increase natural humidity and cool the air which in turn would increase growth of the plants inside so i believe this does have possibilities within the building (the gardens)

Within the roof structure i wanted to create two things shelter and solar energy which when i was looking at some images i come across a picture of a tree with leaves on one side and just structure on the other which i found very interesting as it provides all the aspects im interested in achieving.

before i finished this i come across the concept of solar tree which are basically tree impressions with the whole structure made of photo voltaic cells which store the solar power through the day and glow at night.
this i then thought y not combine the internal structure into photovoltaic cell and create a link between the external facade (solar) and the internal structure. So in my mind the structure through the day would always have two function day = support structure, and transport solar power to storage units for the coming night, then at Night= would transfer the power into the photovoltaic cells around the supports transforming them into artificial lights the engulf the building in light creating 24 hour gardens,
also the glowing internal structure since i adopted this tree form when seen at night would appear as if there were fully grown trees hidden within this green house will providing light for activities to continue within the building.

Ideas of what one the oyster leasers would look like and then be attached to the river bed and become a permanent fixture within the site

oyster leases for river revitilisation

Floor plan layout of me gardens off set to give the feeling of a greater volume.

river side market location= (gives idea of the size of the expansion that could be achieved.)

internal structure spaced out and below the actural form of the support structure will also glow at night.

tree behind the idea of it all refer to hand drawn diagram or final for reasoning.

Initial placement on the site and how it interacts without any need for real bulkie forms

lightweigth roof structure

roof with 4 differnet material, solar and light shelf top, ventilation top, evaporative grill side and glass on the side.

CONCEPT; morphogensis, (self assembly of the nastural and urban environment)

Some initial diagramming reviled like i though would happen would be the main access and interaction between the building and users would be the ground floor which in the case of gardens could create problems in tending to your crop if everyone else is standing around. this is why I have raised the first floor 3 meter of the ground creating places were all that is in the road is the supports for the building which in this case can also act to define the perimeters of the area which could include markets like the ones seen just around the corner at the riverside markets (eagle street markets)

My initial approach to the instalment of the gardens, wanted to work with the cliff but decided to mirror the cliff as the building was elevated with plate forms on each level reaching out into the cliff to allow the user to interact with the vertical gardens,
also the idea of having an envelope seem to apply in the case allowed the form to take on a similar appearance to a green house.
